First Yonoton enhanced Subway restaurant goes live

Subway (Nordic Bites Group Oy) opens new restaurants in Denmark and across the Nordics. Copenhagen is the first restaurant using high-end Yonoton technology for smoother ordering and payment processes.

The iconic fast food brand Subway is back in Denmark. On September 19, the chain opened the doors to its first new restaurant in Amager Centeret Copenhagen, as part of a larger initiative that will bring 50 new Subway restaurants to the country in the coming years.

The relaunch is taking place under the new ownership of Nordic Bites Group Oy, who already have extensive experience operating Subway restaurants in Finland and Sweden. They are committed to making Denmark part of the sandwich empire, and with investor support from Juuri Partners Oy, it is a project with great ambitions.

"We have been very much looking forward to welcoming Danish guests to the first of our many new restaurants," says country manager Dorte Gleie in a press release.

New concept with kiosks

One of the new initiatives in the upcoming restaurants is self-service-kiosks – where customers assemble and order subs without having to stand in line. This should cut down on waiting times and make the whole experience a little smoother. It's part of a larger digital offensive from Subway, which also heralds several new tech solutions in the near future.

Yonoton’s advanced omnichannel ordering solutions: kiosks, point-of-sale, order management, order status and mobile solutions are used in the new sites. Making dining smoother, faster, and more enjoyable – giving guests the convenience they deserve while helping restaurants boost efficiency.

Big comeback in Denmark

Subway is one of the world's largest fast food brands with around 37,000 restaurants globally. After a few years away from the Danish market, the chain is now embarking on a massive expansion in the Nordic region.

The plan is to open approximately 50 restaurants in Denmark by 2032 - six of which in 2025 alone. But with the openings in Amager Centret, Field's, City 2 in Taastrup, Lyngby Storcenter and two restaurants in Aalborg this year, the chain is really starting to make a mark.

In the first quarter of 2026, new restaurants will follow in Randers, Ishøj, Glostrup and Slagelse, among others.
